We use a pea gravel base in both our ground kennels and under our above-ground kennels. Simply frame the area you want to serve as the base with 2x4's on end, and fill with 4" of pea gravel. |
| To clean under the above-grounds, pull the waste forward with a garden rake and pick up from the front. Twice weekly, hose the rock down with bleach water solution and odors won't be a problem. The rock drains well and keeps hounds in ground kennels cleaner while providing a more natural footing. This about the easiest and most affordable do-it-yourself kennel base that will keep hounds from getting muddy or staying wet. |

| These all-aluminum above-ground kennels, (Seneca Kennel & Supply 419-447-0968) make for a warm, dry, cozy home during the harsh winter. The vinyl-coated wire is easy on the feet, and the porch allows a nice spot to perch when the sun comes out. |
| The best investment for any city-dwelling beagler is a privacy fence. Turning them loose in the yard each day affords the hounds a break from the smaller pens and allows them to co-mingle and stretch. The privacy fence also blocks foot traffic from view - the hounds don't bark as much and the neighbors are happier! |
